EVP and Chief Impact Officer

Position Summary: The EVP and Chief Impact Officer is responsible for leading the strategic investment of United Way of Tarrant County’s (UWTC) financial and non-financial resources to create the greatest possible impact in helping improve outcomes for individuals and families and achieving community-level change. The Chief Impact Officer provides leadership, strategic vision, and direction to the organization in the areas of community outreach, allocations, volunteer engagement, regional offices and efforts, and program supervision. Essential to this work is developing and adopting community-wide goals and implementing a strategic and cohesive plan for impact to make progress on these goals, all based on an understanding of community needs, an awareness of community resources, a knowledge of local and national best practice strategies (financial, advocacy, volunteer, other), leveraging and aligning UWTC’s unique strengths and abilities to support the strategies, engaging in relationships and partnerships, and measuring results. The Chief Impact Officer leads the CI-Programs Team and is a member of and works closely with the organization’s Executive Team to align programs with the organization’s strategy, vision, and mission.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: 5-8 direct reports. The Chief Impact Officer oversees all personnel responsible for program delivery within the Community Investment-Programs department.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of identifying and adopting community-wide goals for equitable and innovative program delivery.
  • Coordinate implementation of all community impact strategies, including investments, collective impact, volunteerism and public policy and advocacy, to make progress on community-wide goals.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key volunteers.
  • Recruit, develop and manage a high-level volunteer Community Investment Cabinet.
  • Collaborate with the EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer to manage the staffing levels and workload distribution for the team, including personnel recruitment, management, development, recognition, and retention.
  • Support data-driven and continuous learning processes with Community Investment staff.
  • Monitor and track major changes in the community.
  • Oversee the process necessary to produce a new community assessment.
  • Collaborate to maintain, revise, and implement the organizational strategic plan.
  • Develop and manage annual department budget and the allocation of the department’s budget.
  • Work in partnership with the Leadership Team to incorporate strategic messaging in all aspects of volunteer, staff training and printed materials.
  • Oversee recruitment, orientation, training, and involvement of volunteers for committees.
  • Work in partnership with area United Ways to maximize United Way of Tarrant County’s Community Relations and Volunteer Relations efforts.
  • Represent United Way in community meetings, boards, coalitions, and forums.
  • Set direction and be accountable for the divisional goals in support of the strategic plan.
  • Accompany Donor Relations or Corporate Relations team on donor calls and other associated fundraising duties as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Marketing department to develop appropriate collateral materials
  • Ensure third-party evaluation of program work executed by UWTC staff occurs on an ongoing basis
  • Provide superior service that exceeds the expectations of both internal and external customers.
  • Promote principles of DEI both internally and externally.
  • Affirm interrelatedness of divisions within the department and across the company.
  • Volunteer and actively participate in projects, special events, cross-functional teams, or workgroups that support the work of the entire organization.
  • Additional projects as assigned.
 
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • 10+ years of experience with demonstrated success in a management-level program operations function, preferably within a nonprofit organization
  • 5+ years of experience in leading, coaching and developing direct report staff
  • High energy and passion for United Way’s mission is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to construct, articulate and implement the annual strategic plan
  • Strong ability to translate business objectives and strategies to develop plans to facilitate organizational growth
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player to take initiative and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact equitable program delivery
 
Educational Requirements:
  • College degree or comparable requisite experience in a related field required; master’s level degree in a related field preferred

Work Environment
The work environment is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a traditional office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Although the position is eligible to work remotely on an occasional basis, the collaborative nature of the role requires the individual must reside primarily in North Texas with the ability to work from the office or other required location daily if needed.
